The Philippine Jeepney, originally uploaded by clandestinexistence.

"According to philsouvenirs, the Philippine jeepney was derived from the GI jeep brought by the American Soldiers during the World War II.

It has the same stong engine as an Army jeep but with a body that has been remodelled to commuting passengers that normally range from 20-30 (personally I think 30 is an exaggeration, unless people sit at the top of the jeep.)

It has been tagged as the country's King of the Road." - clandestinexistence

"Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in Manila. They were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are well known for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. They have now become a symbol of Philippine culture.

"Extremely cool customised public transport vehicles, re-ceated from US army jeeps left behind in the Philippines after World War II, mostly all privately owned by the driver. Each driver chooses a set route to drive, one that might deliver many passengers, and stops anywhere for pick-ups or delivery. They brighten up their rides and give the cars names to attract potential customers and because they are proud of their Jeepney." - Max Akkerman

"Jeepney, a form of public transportation found throughout the Philippines. A relic of WW 2 US jeeps that have been converted to accommodate passengers.

To some, these may be CO-emitting beasts but I these are much like mobile pop art.
